Bear Mountain Resorts has ski and snowboard education programs that allow students to learn at their own pace. The program aims to keep a beginning skier's learning experience enjoyable. Bear Mountain has a large beginner area that gives more room to learn to snowboard and learn to ski in Big Bear. Coaches help ski students with every aspect of their learning, from renting the right ski equipment to tackling banks, jumps and half pipes.
Bear Mountain provides special ski instruction called Smart Terrain. It's designed to guide you into a variety of natural learning progressions. Smart Terrain reduces a student's fear and fatigue associated with the first time skiing or snowboarding. So much care was dedicated to the making of these lessons, that Bear Mountain even considered the beginner's possible anxiety of gaining too much speed. So now, the downhill slope of the beginner area leads into uphill snow ramps to keep new skiers and snowboarders from gaining too much momentum.
As is obvious to any observer, snowboarding is different from skiing. Bear Mountain Resorts have recognized this, and created learning programs for beginning snowboarders called the Burton Method. Burton Snowboard Company has developed snowboards, boots and bindings that are specially made to cater to a beginner snowboarders' needs. Just as with the Bear Mountain ski lessons, the learn-to-snowboard lessons also include in depth how-to's that cover everything, even advice on the right snowboard equipment to rent.
Bear Mountain works with the United States Adaptive Recreation Center (USARC). The USARC enables people of all disabilities the opportunity to ski. The adaptive ski school program offers full or half day lessons that include private instruction, lift tickets and access to special equipment such as mono-skis, bi-skis and outriggers.
